ANNOUNCE The P/2-X/2-Project This project aims at providing a POS*X compliant subsystem for OS/2 in order to help porting and writing portable software on OS/2. A first version (libExt) provides missing extensions to the existing EMX libraries; a future version will port and integrate BSD libraries as a standalone environment. The final decision of the upcoming version's name has not yet been made ... Current Situation: The "open source" movement currently gains momentum. For most individual OS/2 users and developers it is essential to profit from this momentum. For many years emx has been the working horse here: Not only because of it's gcc port. Essentially because of it's highly portable, largely open standards conformant C Library. This one has proved reliability and excellence. Let us try to extend it, implementing those interfaces _we_ have always been missing. What to do: We aim in the first place at providing developers with a complete OpenSource (in our case we will have a BSD-like license) set of BSD/Un*x interfaces and development tools. Take part and get on board now! See webpage/docs. Let us coordinate past individual efforts to merge them to a quite usable library. Many complicated work has already been done, namely to support the forthcoming XFree86OS/2 4.0. You might already have implemented other complicated and missing API's. Contribute them, please! And feel free to criticise and to stress-test what we already can offer! BTW, an alpha version of libExt has just been uploaded to hobbes (http://hobbes.nmsu.edu). Check out for "p2alpha1.zip"!
